I Wore This! Super Workday Sunday 17/02/13

Image

Today was another busy workday, i’d never complain though, my job is great! I wanted comfort today so I opted for this super cosy get-up!

I bought this dress earlier in the week and it was delivered yesterday so it is literally fresh out of the packet!! It is so adorable I couldn’t resist wearing it straight away!

My dress is from Verity Styles (you can find their Facebook page HERE), leggings are from M&S, drape cardigan thingy is from H&M (years ago!) and my shoes are from Office.

I’m wearing THE cutest necklace by Kuma Crafts, it actually has little Swarovski crystals as sprinkles!

I also did my nails this evening..

Image

I used Illamasqua nail polishes in Obsess (pink) and Radium (green) and some cheap black eyeliner as a nail art pen.. super simple tip for you there! I top coated it so it would all stay put, but i’m STILL struggling to find the perfect top coat!

Thanks for reading! Kate xx

OMG! Nailgasm!

Image

So I had been hearing about this documentary someone had made about Nail Art for a long time… and I finally had a spare five minutes which coincided with me remembering said documentary and BOOM! I bought and downloaded it!

‘Nailgasm’ was created by filmmaker and photographer, Brass. It is a down-to-earth, realistic and honest film about the nail art world, documenting it’s early days, it’s transition into the fashion world, and it’s current trend explosion!

As you’re all aware.. I am a great fan of nail art, so it was cool to see the names of some artists I recognised such as The Illustrated Nail, Britney Tokyo and Nancy MC (all of whom I only know of through trawling Tumblr and Instagram) It was also great to find out about new talented nail artists to follow, and the film is full of eye candy to really inspire you to go crazy on your claws! The only bad thing about this film is that it wasn’t long enough… I could have happily sat through another hour of mesmerising nail porn!

I’ll let the film speak for itself now, you can buy real life disc versions of the film, badges and stickers HERE. If you are impatient like me you can buy and download it from HERE.

Here is the trailer!

Review! Illamasqua Blush Duo and Speckle Nail Polish

I have a mega huge love affair with Illamasqua make-up. Before I discovered Illamasqua I felt like doing make-up was something only big girls knew how to do and that I simply wasn’t enough of a proper girl to have a clue! The day I walked into Illamasqua, I discovered that there really is no definite ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way!

I now seem to know the girls at the Leeds branch so well I’m on first name terms. I have gone from not having a clue and kind of just slapping stuff on my face, to actually spending evenings free (when I ever have any), experimenting with make-up just for fun!

As a brand, they support all the things I support, individuality, experimentation, self-expression, fun and also have a really good sense of community surrounding them. I never thought there could be such a thing as a make-up ‘fan’ but I am the HUGEST fan of Illamasqua. I don’t have a big sister, so I feel like they’ve taught me everything I should have learned if I had.

Two days ago I bought the Powder Blusher Duo in ‘Ambition & Katie’ and the ‘Speckle’ nail polish, both from their new ‘I’mperfection’ range.

Powder Blusher Duo

Image

I had been entranced by ‘Ambition’ blusher for a while as it has existed on it’s own previously. It is a coral shimmer blusher with teeny gold flecks in it. I would stare at it and imagine I would have magical mermaid cheeks if I bought it. It was released in the new collection alongside ‘Katie’ in this duo. Katie is a wonderful icy pink blush meant to highlight your cheekbones.

I was given a demonstration in store using the new ‘Blush Up Brush’, and tried to recreate the look using my normal blusher brush and it really isn’t the same, so as a mini review.. I think the Blush Up Brush works miracles on my face I can’t even explain!

Here is my attempt with the new duo..

ImageIt’s not perfect by any means, and the lighting could be better but hopefully you get the jist!

This is a great product to experiment with, the two contrasting shades give you plenty of scope to try out different quantities of each to get the right look for you. The ‘Ambition’ colour seems more powdery than ‘Katie’ and my brush picked it up as soon as it touched it. The glitter caught the light throughout the day in a wonderfully subtle way and it made me feel all glowy!

This is the first time Illamasqua have done a blusher duo, so I expect they may be doing more in future collections!

Speckle Polish

I love this product, also in the new range! As far as i’m aware, no other company has ever made an eggshell nail polish before, I think it’s really innovative and certainly looks adorable! It’s limited edition though, so try get your hands on some quick!

Image

I painted my nails in Speckle last night, and since worked a full day in a busy shop. They have chipped, and I did have to repaint a few but to be honest, that could be to do with me not using a basecoat, and topcoating it with some weird Sally Hansen stuff I had lying around. I would imagine if you used Illamasqua base and top coats too it wouldn’t behave in this way!

The brushes on the Illamasqua polishes make painting your nails so super simple! I’ve found these particular pastel and light colours work well to make short nails look a little more elegant too!

Well there’s my round-up of my new Illamasqua haul! Overall, very good products as always.. I’ll be hitting up YouTube for some blusher tips and also experimenting with base and top coats to make Speckle last longer!

Did you buy any of the ‘I’mperfection’ collection? How do you like it?

I Wore This! Girly Saturday 26/01/13

ImageBeing a junk food poseypants!

This weekend my wonderful best friend (photographer Sam of Wicked Heart Photography) came to visit me for a few days! We usually go shopping, but this time we fancied staying in, where it’s warm!

On the Saturday we had another of our friends come visit, the beautiful Emma with her sister Rachel who had come to do our nails! I had tips put on and later decorated my new claws with my own nail art creations. Sam had cute lilac gels put on with adorable iridescent shell flakes!

I wore a new outfit for this girly occasion, my junk food tights, a vintage sheer blouse and my brand spanking new burger sweater! I made myself hungry all day in this get up!

My tights are from Mancphoebe on ASOS Marketplace, My blouse is from Pop Boutique and my amazing new sweater is from Mr GuGu & Miss Go, based in Poland but selling Internationally through Big Cartel (I just made the mistake of looking now and they have photo print leggings!!!!)

If you would like tutorials for any of the nail designs I have done please hit me up with a request through my email katykamikaze@gmail.com or in the comments below!

DIY Delight : Super Easy Strawberry Nails!

Hello all,

As promised, here is a quick nail tutorial for all you laquer lovers! This is one of the first designs I got the hang of when I first started painting my nails with little designs on them, I now incorporate these into ‘Fruit Salad’ manicures along with watermelon and pineapple nails.

The strawberries are the easiest, please forgive me if you feel you can already do these with your eyes closed but I wanted to go with a simple one for my first nail tutorial!

So here goes!

1. Gather together your polishes.

Image

I always, ALWAYS use a base coat and top coat. The best I’ve found are Seche Base Ridge Filling Base and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat both available from many beauty websites online!

Image

For the design itself, you need a bright red (or pink if you want girly strawbs!), leafy bright green and a pale yellow. You can see which ones I used above!

2. Apply base coat. Apply red (or pink!)

Image

I would recommend doing a few coats to prevent the colour from looking streaky. Also, can I just apologise for the blurriness of the picture and the fact I’m doing it on a nail wheel.. My nails are not in great condition at the moment!

3. Create your leaves!

Image

I use a cocktail stick for this bit! Dip your cocktail stick into your green and dab a blob at the top of the nail, drag the polish down and shape it into a triangle pointing downwards, then do two more either side and finally, drag the polish around the edges using the cocktail stick. You may need to do two coats of this if you are using a really runny polish, but always let the layers dry in between, otherwise the red underneath might come through and leave a marbly effect in the green.. and nobody wants mouldy strawberries!

4. Add pips/seeds!

Image

Wow this is not the best picture! SORRY.. I’ll get better at this I promise! So next you want to add your little yellow thingummys.. I don’t know whether the right word is pips, or seeds or what. Either way.. you need ’em! Dip a clean cocktail stick in your light yellow, making sure you have a little glob on the end, then lightly touch it to the nail in the middle of the red. Use this middle dot to radiate outwards until you have a nice little dotty pattern. Try to make the dots a little elongated and not too uniform in size!

5. Top it off!

Finally, once all of your layers are dry, paint over your whole design with top coat! Even if your top coat is fast dry and will dry your other polish, it is important to let your other polish dry first as applying the topcoat on sticky polish might cause your yummy strawberry to run, and all your hard work will be ruined!

Here’s some I did a while ago!

Image

These ones were my first attempt from about a year ago! They’re a bit messy and I am by no means a super great nail artist but practise makes perfect!

Have fun strawberrying up your nails! I’d love to see photos!

Enjoy! Kate x
